  11.     YOU MUST USE THE SETUP PROGRAM TO INSTALL ALL THE FAILSAFE FEATURES.

  35.                 SETUP
  36.  
  37.     To install WinSafe95 read the Setup Text file located at the menu
  38.     bar SETUP and then SETUP TEXT.
  39.     
  40.     To uninstall Winsafe95 use the UNINSTALL at the SETUP and then
  41.     click UNINSTALL in the menu bar.
  42.     
  43.     To reinstall use the Installation program.

  46.                 WAIT TIME
  47.  
  48.          WinSafe95 can not read files that are in use. If you receive an 
  49.      error notice during startup; after installing new programs, you 
  50.     may adjust the wait time. You may also adjust it if WinSafe95 does
  51.     not start scanning(the PLEASE WAIT window displays when scanning)
  52.     immediately after boot up.
  53.          If you hear the hard drive still working when The WinSafe95 
  54.         PLEASE WAIT window appears: use the SETUP menu to increase
  55.             the wait time. 
  56.         The value is set to 7. Increasing the number will cause a 
  57.         longer wait time and decreasing it will shorten wait time.
  58.         WinSafe95 must wait till the hard drive stop working and all
  59.         programs(ie:. virus scanners)have finished booting into 
  60.         Windows Try rebooting before continuing. If you still
  61.         get a message window that WinSafe95 can not read a file
  62.         click on SETUP and then WAIT TIME and adjust the value. 
  63.     If you still get an error message see TESTING.

  66.                 TESTING
  67.        Testing is for when you have installed a program that WinSafe95
  68.     can not read. You will receive an error message at startup or
  69.     WinSafe95 may report with the REPORT command that a File has been 
  70.     deleted when you know that one has not. To Fix the problem use The
  71.     START TEST command.
  72.        If you get a report that files are deleted use steps 1 and then 
  73.     click on the REPORT button and then TEST COMPLETE. Rerun REPORT.
  74.     If WinSafe95 still reports the file as deleted access Winsafe.ini 
  75.     and under[FILES]add the file name i.e. "Awedft.bmp" without the path.
  76.  
  77.     1) On the menu bar click on SETUP then START TEST.
  78.     2) WinSafe95 will now look for non system hidden files. If it finds  
  79.        one, a message box will appear and tell you that WinSafe95 can not 
  80.        find a file, line 20. Winsafe95 will also prompt you to backup 
  81.        now. 
  82.        If the only message you get is Winsafe asking if you had any 
  83.        problems click YES not NO. Backup and go to step 10.
  84.     3) Write the file name and path down on a piece of paper
  85.         i.e.(c:\Windows\system.sys) and click OK.
  86.     4) When WinSafe95 is complete click on SETUP and then ATTRIBUTE
  87.     5) Type the file name and path in the next box to be displayed, and 
  88.        click OK.
  89.     6) You will now see in the MSDOS window a line similar to the one
  90.        below:
  91.        "A     SHR      SYSTEM.DAT C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM.DAT"
  92.        make note of the letters between the A and SYSTEM.DAT.
  93.        In the example the letters are SHR. Then close the MSDOS window.
  94.     7) In then next window to appear type the letters that appeared
  95.        in the previous MSDOS window (without spaces), and click OK.
  96.        If in step 7 only an R was present type the letter R if no 
  97.        letter appeared click CANCEL.
  98.     8) After you have completed step 8 with all files reported click on
  99.        SETUP on the menu bar and then on START TEST again. You should not 
  100.        receive any messages that WinSafe95 can not read a file. If you 
  101.        still get a message click on SETUP and then WINSAFE.INI Look for
  102.         [HIDDEN] and verify that you have entered the correct file name
  103.        and path. Then repeat steps 4-9.
  104.       9) After you have completed step 8 with all files reported click on
  105.        SETUP on the menu bar and then on START TEST again. You should not 
  106.        receive any messages that WinSafe95 can not read a file. If you 
  107.        still get a message click on SETUP and then WINSAFE.INI Look for
  108.         [HIDDEN] and verify that you have entered the correct file name
  109.        and path. Then repeat steps 4-9.
  110.        10) Next click on the TEST COMPLETE.

  113.                 BUTTONS
  114.                 
  115.     EDIT SYSTEM  : Accesses the system files for editing. You can access
  116.        the Win.ini, System.ini, Autoexec.bat, Config.sys, Protocol.ini, 
  117.        and MSMail.ini.
  118.     EDIT REGISTRY: Accesses the Registry for editing. CAUTION: Editing 
  119.        this file incorrectly may crash Windows.
  120.     DEFRAGMENT   : Accesses the defrager which defragments your files.
  121.        You may defrag as often as you like(every day). This general 
  122.        speeds up your computer.
  123.     SCANDISK     : Accesses Scandisk, used to repair errors on your
  124.        Hard drive.
  125.     BACKUP       : This button will allow WinSafe95 to backup all your
  126.        vital files. 
  127.     RESTORE      : This button will allow WinSafe95 to replace all your
  128.        vital files with WinSafe95's backup files. You can use this feature 
  129.        aid in uninstalling a program that was registered in a system file
  130.        if you have not backed up since the installation of the program
  131.        you wish to remove.     
  132.      MSD         : Accesses MSD, a diagnostic tool, used to diagnose
  133.        problems with Windows 95
  134.     REPORT       : When clicked WinSafe95 will review all the information
  135.        that it collected when you lasted booted to Windows successfully.
  136.        Then collect all new information and compare the two. WinSafe95
  137.       will then tell you what files have been changed, added or deleted.
  138.     EXIT         : Shuts down WinSafe95.

  141.                 MENU ITEMS

  143.  FILES
  144.     LOG VIEW     : Will display a list of files that WinSafe95 has poled.
  145.     VIEW REPORT  : Displays the latest report generated by WinSafe95.
  146.     HELP FILE    : Accesses this file.
  147.     RELOG        : Makes WinSafe95 start a new log. This will over write
  148.          the log created at startup, allowing you to create a new 
  149.          report.
  150.              This a valuable feature if you crash to Safe Mode, restore 
  151.              your files and crash again.
  152.  
  153.  RESTORE
  154.     RESTORE      : Accessing this will do the same as clicking on the
  155.          RESTORE button. 
  156.          This handy feature is useful when you lose control of your 
  157.          mouse.
  158.     RESTORE TEXT : Accesses this file useful if you loose control of your
  159.                 mouse.
  160.     INSTALL OLD CONFIGURATIONS: If you click on this menu item the next 
  161.         time you use the Restore feature you will install the 
  162.         files that you place in the SAFE using the SAVE OLD CONFIGURATION
  163.             command. If you have not used that command WinSafe95 will be
  164.             installing files placed there when you installed WinSafe95
  165.         on your computer. WinSafe95 will tell you when these files 
  166.         were placed in the SAFE.
  167.     SAVE OLD CONFIGURATION :If you click on this menu item the next 
  168.         time you use the Backup feature you will install the 
  169.         current files to the SAFE. These files will be used if  you
  170.         choose the INSTALL OLD CONFIGURATIONS command or if you crash
  171.         and need the WinSafe1 command at the DOS prompt.
  172.         WinSafe95 will tell you when these files were last backed up.
  173.     CLEAR CONFIGURATION SETTINGS: This will remove the setting you set
  174.         if you have clicked on INSTALL or SAVE OLD CONFIGURATION.
  175.     REINSTALL WINDOWS 95: WinSafe95 will reinsatll Windows using your 
  176.         cabinet files. This feature is also available at the DOS prompt
  177.         See the Restore text.
  178.     TECH SUPPORT: If you are a registered user you may get free tech 
  179.         support from EASY DESK Software with your Registration #.
  180.     REGISTRATION : Use this command to enter your registration #
  181.    
  182.  SETUP
  183.     SETUP TEXT: Accesses the setup text file used for installing, and
  184.         finding and programming files to WinSafe95. You will also 
  185.         find information need to adjust the WAIT TIME at startup.
  186.     WINSAFE.INI: Accesses the Initialization file for WinSafe95 if you
  187.         need to edit it due to deleted files or adding files.
  188.     WAIT TIME : This command allows to change the startup wait time
  189.         for Winsafe95, see WAIT TIME.
  190.     START TEST: Puts WinSafe95 in Test Mode See TESTING
  191.     ATTRIB    : This feature allows you to find what attributes a file has.
  192.     TEST COMPLETE: Sets WinSafe95 back to normal run operation.
  193.  UTILITIES
  194.     EXPLORER: Accesses the Explorer
  195.     MEMORY  : Will display a window that will show you your available 
  196.         memory. This feature is handy when a program decides to 
  197.         rewrite your config.sys and use all your computers memory.
  198.     SYSTEM INFORMATION: In this file you will find all the Information
  199.             that you will need to have a tech help diagnose a non 
  200.         recovery from SAFE MODE.
  201.     UNINSTALL : This will walk you through uninstalling WinSafe95
  202.

  204.                 BACKING UP
  205.     When you got the message Backup Complete after backing up with 
  206.     no error messages then everything is working fine.
  207.  
  208.     1) After WinSafe95 has been successfully installed and setup, 
  209.        WinSafe95 will tell you when you need to backup your files. This
  210.        will happen when ever a system file changes. 
  211.     2) Backup your files directly after startup when prompted;
  212.        before installing anything or accessing any programs. 
  213.     3) Winsafe will only backup all your files once after each Windows 
  214.        startup. If you wish to backup a second time, you must restart 
  215.        your computer first. This is to insure that you do not save 
  216.        corrupted files.

  219. ERROR MESSAGES:
  220.      1) If you receive an error message after WinSafe95 has been setup 
  221.        read the Setup Text file.
  222.     2) If you receive an error message after you install a new program 
  223.        read the TESTING section.
  224.     3) If you receive error message during startup (rebooting) read the 
  225.        WAIT TIME section.

  228.                 RESTORING
  229.  
  230.      Restore only if you have a problem or you installed some program 
  231.     that you want to remove and did not back up since installation of
  232.     that program. Or you may use the INSTALL OLD CONFIGURATION command.

  234.     To restore files in SAFE MODE or a lockout read the Restore Text.

  238.             HOW WINSAFE95 WORKS
  239.     
  240.          WinSafe95 uses an installation program that sets up its' own 
  241.     directory; backs up all your vital files and then hides them with
  242.     attributes. So that you may not be able to see them. 
  243.        WinSafe95 also placed additional backup files in the "Safe" when 
  244.     you installed it. The Safe is a hidden subdirectory of Winsafe.
  245.     In the Safe is a copy of the registry, Windows.ini file and your 
  246.     System.ini. These four files will never be replaced by WinSafe95
  247.     unless you request INSTALL OLD CONFIGURATION. They are placed
  248.     here for you to use if you should ever backup with corrupted files.

  250.     WinSafe95 also takes a picture of your system and saves the current
  251.      information in a log. The information is stored until you restart 
  252.     your computer again and replaced with a new log. This log will not
  253.     be replaced if you boot into Windows in Safe Mode. If you request 
  254.     WinSafe95 will replace it if you click on RELOG.
  255.  
  256.     To view changes made to your system since you last booted to windows
  257.     click on the REPORT button and when WinSafe95 finishes reviewing the
  258.     log and your current system it will display the information. You can
  259.     then see if any changes where made to your system files since you 
  260.     last booted into Windows successfully. This may take a minute or two.
